Abstract

From subterranean laboratories to cosmological super-computers, fundamental science is premised on a paradoxical relationship between material presence and perceptual remoteness making it one of the most ‘difficult’ areas of science for lay-publics to cognitively and imaginatively assimilate. Material Sight: Re-presenting the Spaces of Fundamental Science was an extended body of practice-based research generated at three world-leading research facilities that actively used this paradox to explore ideas of material encounter.
